Dr. Polat Göktaş, a faculty member at Sabancı University's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, has been elected Chair of the MCAA Turkey Chapter for the 2026-2028 term within the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA), the global alumni network of researchers funded through the European Union's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA).
About the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA)
The Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) is an international, non-profit organization that brings together researchers who have received or are currently receiving funding through the European Union's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). Supported by the European Commission and driven primarily by volunteers, the MCAA has grown into a global community of more than 24,000 members across over 50 country chapters and thematic working groups.
The MCAA's core mission is to foster international collaboration among MSCA researchers, support researchers' career development, and serve as a collective voice for the research community within the European research and innovation ecosystem. Its activities span mentoring, networking, science policy, science diplomacy, education, and public engagement.
About the MCAA Turkey Chapter
The MCAA Turkey Chapter aims to strengthen collaboration among current and former Marie Skłodowska-Curie researchers in Türkiye, promote engagement with the MCAA community, and increase the visibility of MSCA programmes across the country. Membership is free and open to all MCAA members who are Turkish citizens or residents of Türkiye.

About Dr. Polat Göktaş
Dr. Polat Göktaş is a faculty member at Sabancı University's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. He completed his PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Bilkent University. During his doctoral studies, he was a Fulbright Doctoral Research Fellow at Harvard University, and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at University College Dublin. His research focuses on trustworthy and responsible artificial intelligence (AI), AI governance, machine learning, and the application of AI in healthcare, environmental sustainability, and education.
Alongside his research activities, Dr. Göktaş is actively involved in international scientific networks and research policy initiatives. He serves as Chair of the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) Turkey Chapter (2026-2028), is a member of the Türkiye Management Committee of the European COST Action AI-GUIDE, and contributes to international AI policy initiatives through the Center for AI and Digital Policy (CAIDP). He also supports innovation, entrepreneurship, and early-career researchers through several international volunteer leadership roles within IEEE.
Dr. Göktaş has received national and international distinctions, including the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Fulbright Doctoral Research Fellowship, the IEEE Doctoral Research Award, the METU Serhat Özyar Young Scientist of the Year Award, and the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting Young Scientist Award, among others.
